CR Cybersecurity Teams Take High Marks in Two Cyber League Competitions

CR’s competitive CIS Cybersecurity Teams made improvements this year in the California Cyber Mayors Cup competition held Saturday, April 2nd. Our CR teams took 1st and 2nd place in the Far North College Division for the second straight year, bringing home another Mayor’s Cup trophy for CR. In the overall standing for all divisions statewide (34 California teams), CR Red Team rose to 2nd place and gave the first-place team a serious run for their money. CR Blue Team climbed to 12th place overall.

The California Cyber Mayors Cup is a month-long, capture the flag competition where students work in teams to solve a variety of real-world cybersecurity challenges focusing on a web application security, network traffic analysis, log analysis, cryptography, reverse engineering, and more.

CIS cybersecurity students also competed in the Spring Season of the National Cyber League (NCL) Competition. This season in the team game, CR Team 1 took 82nd place on the national top-100 leaderboard, against 3,658 teams!

The NCL team competition is a weekend-long event that provides unique opportunities for students to prepare for and test themselves against practical cybersecurity challenges that they will likely face in the workforce, including retrieving forensic data, pen-testing and auditing vulnerable websites, analyzing network traffic and log files, and much more.
